The Car Cartel, am I entitled to compensation?

Did you buy a new car between February 2006 and August 2013? It is very likely that you are entitled to a compensation, between 2,000€ and 5,000€.

What is The Car Cartel?

The Car Cartel, otherwise known in Spain as “Cártel de Coches”, is an organized group made up of different car manufacturers that violated the free competition laws by conspiring together in order to control the market and the price of the vehicles they sell.

This violation was declared by the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) and has also been confirmed by the “Audiencia Nacional” and the Supreme Court.

Which brands are affected?

The car manufacturers who were part of The Car Cartel are Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Citroen, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jeep, Kia, Lancia, Land Rover, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot, Porsche, Renault, Saab, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen, Toyota, Volvo, Dacia, Mini, Smart.

What amount am I owed?

The amount we can claim is the difference between the price paid for the vehicle and the price that would have been paid if this organized group had not existed. Although this amount may vary depending on the make and model of the car, it amounts in all cases to at least 10% and up to 15% of the price paid.

In each specific case, we will have an expert report on the exact amount to be claimed.

Which documents are required to get started?

The following documents are required to initiate the claim:

  • The sale contract of the vehicle

  • The invoice to accredit the purchase

  • The vehicle's technical data sheet and the registration certificate
